To put it into perspective, most people tend to suffer from problems like constipation, diarrhea, or other issues in the bowels. But unfortunately, most of us hesitate to talk about these problems openly. Thankfully, there’s Ayurveda for digestion to the rescue!

Ayurveda for digestion entails all the parameters associated with healthy elimination. It is worth noting that our bowels and stool samples greatly give you a clear picture of our health condition. In fact, it can indicate our body’s problems and how we can cure them.

Ayurveda for digestion

Ayurveda for gut health dictates the fact that the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) is the source of all digestive discrepancies in the body. Accordingly, a disturbed digestive system is the main reason behind all digestive disorders in the body.

Ayurveda for indigestion puts utmost emphasis on the digestive tract and its inherent functionality of converting what we consume into energy. Without a balanced digestive process, foods cannot be assimilated and absorbed into the body for the production of energy. As a result, there is the generation of toxins in the body due to the undigested residue. According to Ayurveda for digestion, this residue is known as ama and is the reason behind digestive disorders and diseases. Such imbalances are detected in the stool, and a study of the bowel movement can give an idea of our health in general.

But when these discrepancies are not dealt with, they will create health issues in the digestive system and can progress to become a more serious issue in due course of time. In fact, such illnesses can also spread to other parts of the body. Through Ayurveda for intestinal health, we can understand the nuances involved in correcting the doshas and eliminating the ama, causing digestive disorders. Ultimately, it would lead to good health and wellness.

The concepts highlighted by Ayurveda for digestion

According to Ayurveda for health, proper elimination happens about two to three times each day. To put it into perspective, the first passage of bowels naturally takes place in the morning, in a short span of time after waking up. It is important to note that this phenomenon is not affected by food consumption.

Coming to the structure of the stool, they should ideally have the consistency of plantain and retain their shape even after elimination. In addition, your stool should have a light brown coloration and should not stick to the surface of the toilet bowl. Ultimately, it should not smell too pungent and should ideally be mild.

However, the stools of most people aren’t of ideal standards. Poor diet and lifestyle choices make it extremely challenging to maintain good condition of stool and bowel movements. So it is easy to understand why healthy elimination is so important. It not only contributes to better stool and bowel movement but also leads to good overall health.

What does Ayurveda for digestion tell us?

Whatever we consume goes on to be subjected to the process of digestion and other processes through the functionality of agni (fire). A person’s agni is responsible for the determination of the efficiency of the digestion process. When there is the proper balance in the agni, it leads to better health and well-being in the long run. In fact, good condition of agni also leads to better physical, mental, and emotional health.

The vitality of agni is naturally reduced due to poor eating habits, bad food, improper lifestyle, stress, and unhealthy elimination. When agni becomes weak, our immune system also takes a toll on its functionality. Reinforcing agni and gauging the specific needs of your dosha correction leads to good health.

Types of elimination as per Ayurveda for digestion

Vata Elimination

In vata elimination, the high concentrations of vata that gather in the digestive tract results in hard, dry, and foul-smelling stools that can be painful or difficult to pass. The accumulation of vata also leads to issues such as stomach ache, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gut health concerns, nausea, and vomiting. In some cases, the accumulation of vata makes your body experience both constipation and diarrhea. In addition, the condition is typically accompanied by weakness in the body and digestive disorders. Other corresponding health conditions caused by high amounts of vata are low abdominal pain, sciatica, non-bleeding hemorrhoids, and fissures or fistulas.

When vata is extremely dominant, you need to form an even distribution between its cold and dry qualities with warmth and a lot of fluids (typically accompanied by Ayurvedic oils). It should also be noted that one needs to be calmer, get enough rest, and stay hydrated at all times. Adopt a gentle diet on the stomach, avoiding foods that are too oily, spicy, or hot.

Pitta Elimination

The accumulation of high amounts of pitta in the digestive tract results in irregular and urgent bowel movements, with soft, pasty stools, more fluid or oily. The stools may break down after being eliminated. In addition, these stools are usually warm, consequently causing a burning sensation during the process of elimination. They also have a pungent and strong odor.

If this condition is not effectively dealt with, you will experience chronic diarrhea. The accumulation of excessive pitta in the digestive system can also result in heartburn, acidity, blood in stool, bleeding hemorrhoids, and weakness in the body.

To ensure that your pitta is balanced, one should resort to nutrition that cools the body, soothes the lining of the digestive tract, and ideally be based on herbs. You can complement this diet with meditation, light exercises like walking, and the consumption of more fluids.
